The Bullfrog Drums from Erica Synths is now available for order. It joins the Bullfrog educational ecosystem and was developed in collaboration with Richie Hawtin. The sample based drum machine expands the Bullfrog line that focuses on accessible learning tools for electronic music.

Overview of Bullfrog Drums

The Bullfrog Drums was first shown at Superbooth24. It features a classic drum machine layout with a 16 step sequencer. It provides seven tracks of sampled drum sounds and offers controls for tuning, start point, sample length, attack, decay, overdrive and stereo panning. The unit also includes a CV and Gate sequencer for pairing with Bullfrog synthesizers or other compatible instruments.

Design and Controls

The layout follows the Bullfrog design approach. It includes large knobs and calculator style buttons. The sequencer displays controls for shuffle, accent, ratchet, probability and related functions. The front panel also appears to include two built in speakers.

Richie Hawtin Collaboration

Richie Hawtin continues his partnership with Erica Synths. This follows the original Bullfrog and Bullfrog XL projects. Hawtin said: “It only makes sense to add a drum machine to our developing Bullfrog ecosystem.” He added: “This exciting development will allow both novices and pro’s a new way to learn drum programming and enjoy some fun new capabilities that we plan to feature on our new machine.”

Current Information

Erica Synths confirmed the sample based structure and seven voice architecture. Some technical details are still unknown. These include final connectivity options, sampling capabilities and additional functions. The company previously planned a release by the end of 2024.

Availability

The Bullfrog Drums is now available for order through retailers including Thomann. It continues the Bullfrog mission to make electronic music education accessible. For more information, visit the Erica Synths website.
