After a weeks-long battle with Covid-19, the tragic news was delivered. Johnson’s death was announced on his Facebook fan page. Paul Johnson died at the age of 50.

Johnson excelled in a melodic, sample-heavy form of Chicago house that emphasized a clear connection between disco, soul, and his distinctive dance floor style. His 1999 tune “Get Get Down,” which used a Bohannon sample, topped Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play and charted in 14 countries.

He has a 30-year record jam packed of memorable albums, including his Peacefrog Records debut Bump Talkin, as well as EPs for labels such as Dance Mania, Djax-Up-Beats, Cajual, Relief, Underground Construction, and Crydamoure.

After being injured in a shooting mishap in 1987, the Chicago native, who was born in 1971, has been wheelchair-bound since that time. He has been a double amputee since 2010, yet he continued to DJ across the world for millions of admirers.

Johnson’s aunt requested that 5 Magazine tell readers about Johnson’s death, according to the publication.

Johnson’s death was lamented throughout the dance music world, and we mourn his death as well. Rest in peace, Johnson.
